Unleashing Your Full Potential

If we want to unleash our full potential (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually)  it is wise for us to be observant of the ‘messages’ our body is giving us. By doing this we can gain an understanding of how important it is to be mindful of your thoughts, actions, feelings, and lifestyle choices symptoms and how they are all related to our personal growth, health, and wellbeing.

Your body is your best friend, and it will not lie to you, although on occasion we would not mind if it were not so honest! You will only get the symptoms of an imbalance when your body cannot compromise anymore and then it will ‘call’ for your attention or even a ‘cry’ for your attention.

Many people will look for answers outside themselves as to why they have their symptoms, or they may take medicine to put the ‘fire alarm’ out, yet do not attempt to put out the fire! We want to do our best not to accumulate medicines as we move through life by just putting out the ‘fires’! Many people end up taking 5 or more medicines daily! We know that many illnesses are lifestyle and stress-related.

Just to be clear. I would not want to be without many of the medicines and medical procedures we now have available. Many people would not be alive if it were not for modern medical practices! We are blessed to have them. Ideally, when we need medicine, we take it and at the same time we ask ourselves, “What part, (if any) did I play in needing the medicine in the first place?” I have seen many people either reduce the number of medications they take, or the dosage of their medications simply by adopting a healthier lifestyle and a healthier attitude to life.

Genetics also plays a big part in all our lives. We are all born with hereditary genes that can potentially lead to good health or illness. Modern research shows that it is the environment, especially within our body, (epigenetics) that determines if it is the healthy genes or the unhealthy ones that will get the upper hand and are therefore be encouraged to express themselves! We can control our internal environment with our thoughts, emotions, eating patterns, exercise, lifestyle habits, and by reducing the harmful chemicals and environments we expose ourselves to.

Unleashing Your Full PotentialMany ‘life lessons’ can be identified by observing your symptoms and learning to listen to your body’s whispers before they turn into screams for attention. How and when the symptoms manifest can help determine which Chakra, i.e. energy centre, is ‘wanting’ your attention, (more on this later in the article) which in turn will point to a certain lifestyle, attitude or mindset your body would love you to adopt and is encouraging you to embrace. Remember, your body is your best friend!

Having been a health and wellbeing practitioner for the last 41 years and having seen over 30,000 clients, I realise that the most important factor in determining someone’s health is their attitude to themselves, their attitude to life, and their response (or reaction) to life’s challenges.

Another word for attitude is ‘mindset’. Our mindset is fostered in early life by our parents, society, and our friends, and often the mindset we adopt is not conducive to good health. In fact, our mindset (the way we think and process information) can be an obstacle to good health.

Ideally, we would aim to get to the stage where we realise that, ‘I am not my mind, I am not even my thoughts. I am the observer of my thoughts, and some of my thoughts are not even true!’ The aim is not to be deceived by our thoughts that are not true and/or negative as they are obstacles to our good health. The body believes everything we believe!

Be the observer of your thoughts and practice discrimination as to what you choose to believe. Behave the same as if you were receiving the information from someone else!

Also, be careful as to what you believe regarding conspiracy theories and predictions from others, (and ourselves). Investigate them and come to your own conclusions.

One of our greatest personal growth moments is when we realise that we over-reacted to a situation with frustration, anger, blaming others, resentment, jealousy, etc. We are human, we are going to make mistakes and we can grow and move forward if we want to – only if we want to! If we were perfect and could respond perfectly to every situation I do not feel we would even be here!

Although our attitude to life in general and the way we respond to situations is a huge factor in determining our mental, emotional, and physical health please do not underestimate the value of a healthy lifestyle, especially a balanced nutritional intake and the state of our digestive system. I highly recommend you optimising these two aspects of health, as they have an enormous impact on our mental, emotional, and physical health! How we go about unleashing your full potential is up to us.Unleashing Our Full Potential

A few examples of mindset and lifestyle obstacles that can lead to us to limiting our full potential, good health, and wellbeing that I have observed over the last 41 years are:

1. Not being able to let go of the past:
Every time we relive a past event in our minds, our body relives the experience too, and it impacts our hormones, muscles, organs, nervous system, etc. It is very difficult to move forward to a healthier, more balanced version of ourselves until we can let go of the past! Our destiny is calling us, and ideally, it would be best to let go of the ‘anchor’ of past stresses, anger, and injustices, otherwise, we are going to have a very challenging time moving forward. It is like having a sore that is trying to heal, and we keep picking at it, and at the same time wondering why it will not heal! Learn to leave it alone!

Regarding the past, we have the key (or we may have to find the key) to the ‘prison door’, and we can let ourselves out when we are ready and able. Even if we can only get one foot out of that door right now, we are moving in the right direction, towards the present, step by step. If we need help in resolving any challenges, either from the past or present, it is a very positive step to seek counselling. It is a sign of strength to ask for help!

Sometimes our mind may encourage us to hold on to stories from the past so we can justify to ourselves and others why we are the way we are and why we find ourselves in the situations we are in. We could ask ourselves, “Why do I need to hold on to that story?”, sometimes the answer will be, “Without my story how can I justify my behaviour and situation.”

It would not be normal or even healthy if we could automatically let go of some past traumas and life situations, although the aim is to resolve them and catch up to date. The future is calling us, and we want to move forward with as much grace and ease as possible. To do this we aim to let go of the anchors from the past

2. Not loving and accepting ourselves the way we are:
We can never feel any better about life than we feel about ourselves! If we do not feel good about ourselves, we will let the mind find many reasons that do not involve us for why we feel the way we do or why life is not satisfactory, such as the past, relationships, family, work, etc. When we realise that we are the common denominator in everything,
that is growth! Accepting ourselves the way we are right now, does not mean we do not want to change or move forward! We are all ‘learning on the job”!

3. Not setting boundaries, e.g., saying ‘yes’ when we want to say ‘no’!:
For example, if someone phones us and asks us to do something, be somewhere, or help in some way, we often answer yes straight away, and then hang up, and ask ourselves, “Why did I say yes?” Sometimes it is wise to say, “Can you leave it with me, and I’ll call you later?”

This gives you extra time to listen to your intuition, and you may reply differently. You may have a habit of giving the person the answer you know they want, (sometimes to keep the peace) and in some cases, the person may know this and use it as a way of controlling you.

The person asking has probably been thinking about the question for a while, and you just want time to respond honestly and not simply react. Some people may also use ‘illnesses’ as a way of saying no to something (even unconsciously) or to keep people away from them. For example, if we do not create a boundary and say no consciously when we need to, our body may regularly give us a socially acceptable reason to say no, e.g., “Sorry I would love to, but I am not feeling well
at the moment”. (Throat chakra related).

4. Rescuing people, too often at the expense of our own health:
It is wonderful to be able to help people, although it is far better to become a great mentor, than a continual rescuer. We can best show people how to live well by being a positive example, thus helping lead them to their own truths. It is also important to avoid giving too many opinions that have not been asked for! Otherwise, in truth, we may just be wanting to control their lives. (Sacral chakra related).

We can ask the person if they would like our opinion, although we often know what the answer will be! It is an honour when someone asks our opinion.

Many times, we are intuitive enough to know how someone would benefit from the advice we could give, although they are not ready to hear it yet and we need to practice detachment and not create unnecessary conflict by continually giving continued uninvited opinions.

5. Not wanting to be ‘too’ healthy – restricting our full potential:
It is good to picture ourselves healthy in every way, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and see if our mind has anything negative to say about that! For example, it could say: “If I was in wonderful health, other people might have a greater expectation on me to be a certain way, do certain things and achieve more. I might even have more expectations on myself self if I was very healthy”. The truth is you can be as healthy as you like, and you can say yes or no to anything you like! This may not have been the case previously in your life.
